A new species of the lebiine genus Dolichoctis SCHMIDT-GÖBEL, 1846 (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Lebiini), D. ludewigi, is described from the island of New Britain, Bismarck Archipelago (Papua New Guinea). It belongs to the subgenus Spinidolichoctis BAEHR, 1999 and is outstanding within this sub- genus due to the presence of an anterior supraorbital seta. From the two described species, D. bisetosa BAEHR, 1999 and D. bisetosiceps BAEHR, 2013, which bear the same setae, it is distinguished by the combination of the following character states: moderately produced eye, different shape and structure of pronotum, elongate elytral apical spine, and shallow elytral striae. The new species is added to the most recent key to the subgenus Spinidolichoctis BAEHR, 1999.

Copelatus davidi sp.n. (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) is described and compared with C. boukali HENDRICH & BALKE, 1998, and new faunistic records of the latter species are provided.

Some notes on rearing large diving beetle larvae (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) in captivity are provided. A new method to produce food capsules for larvae of Dytiscus L., 1758 or other large dytiscid larvae is introduced and illustrated. Experiments have shown that these capsules filled with raw beef are accepted readily when offered to larvae (L2, L3) of Dytiscus marginalis L., 1758. Furthermore, these capsules help to avoid contamination of the water.

The species of Haliplus (subgenus Liaphlus GUIGNOT) (Coleoptera: Haliplidae), which have a solid digitus on the left paramere are re-examined. The presence of such a digitus is not significant enough to justify a separate specific status. As a consequence, Haliplus kulleri VONDEL, 1988, H. jaechi VONDEL, 1991 and H. ortali VONDEL, 1991 have to be considered as junior synonyms of H. abbreviatus WEHNCKE, 1880, H. davidi VONDEL, 1991 as junior synonym of H. diruptus BALFOUR- BROWNE, 1946, and H. holmeni VONDEL, 1991 as junior synonym of H. sharpi WEHNCKE, 1880.

The family Hydraenidae (Coleoptera) is recorded from Djibouti (East Africa) for the first time. Two new species are described: Limnebius (Bilimneus) josianae, and Ochthebius (s.str.) loulae (O. atriceps group). Three species are recorded from the African Continent for the first time: Hydraena (Hydraen- opsis) arabica BALFOUR-BROWNE, 1951, Limnebius (Bilimneus) arabicus BALFOUR-BROWNE, 1951, and Ochthebius (s.str.) micans BALFOUR-BROWNE, 1951 (O. punctatus group). One species, Hydraena (Hydraenopsis) quadricollis WOLLASTON, 1864, is recorded from Djibouti for the first time. One species of the Ochthebius marinus group, strongly resembling O. chappuisi ORCHYMONT, 1948, described after four females from southern Ethiopia (Omo River) and northern Kenya (Lake Turkana), could not be identified with certainty. Habitus photographs and line drawings of the genitalia of all seven species known from Djibouti (except Limnebius arabicus) are provided. In addition, the male genitalia of two other species of Ochthebius LEACH, 1815 are also illustrated. Keys to the species of the three genera of Hydraenidae from Djibouti are also provided.

Ochthebius (Cobalius) biltoni (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) is described from Sicily (Italy).

The mainland African species of Trigonopalpus CAMERON, 1951 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphy- lininae) are revised. The three known species are redescribed, and two new species, T. endroedyi (South Africa), T. rossii (Sierra Leone), are described. The aedeagi of all species (except T. schenklingi (BERNHAUER, 1912)) are illustrated, and habitus photographs of all species as well as a determination key are provided.

New and additional data on species of the genus Algon SHARP, 1874 are provided and eleven new species are described, one from the A. oculatus group: A. mogokensis sp.n. (Myanmar), and ten from the A. kaiserianus group: A. ailaoshanus sp.n. (China), A. basilineatus sp.n. (China), A. doupeng- shanus sp.n. (China), A. fanjingshanus sp.n. (China), A. grebennikovi sp.n. (China), A. merkli sp.n. (Vietnam), A. phiaoacensis sp.n. (Vietnam), A. subtilis sp.n. (China), A. uncus sp.n. (Laos), A. zhen- baodingensis sp.n. (China). Two species are redescribed: A. fansipanicus ASSING, 2015 and A. uenoi HAYASHI, 2011. Algon viridis BOHAČ, 1992 is recorded from Laos for the first time. The aedeagi and body details of all new species, and all known species of the A. kaiserianus group, are illustrated. A key to species and a distribution map of the A. kaiserianus group are provided.

An assemblage of Thinodromus species in the Afrotropical and Oriental Regions (including some adjacent Palaearctic areas) is reviewed. These taxa were associated with the former genus Apocell- agria CAMERON, 1920 and all exhibit some features unusual for Thinodromus, but apparently are not very closely related with each other. Alongside nine named species six are described as new: Thino- dromus aequatorialis sp.n. (South Sudan: Eastern Equatoria), T. boukali sp.n. (India: Kerala), T. immolatus sp.n. (China: Yunnan), T. jaechi sp.n. (Ethiopia: SNNPR), T. minglueni sp.n. (Laos: Houaphan) and T. zuluanus sp.n. (South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal). Lectotypes are designated for Apo- cellagria amplipennis CAMERON, 1941, A. indica CAMERON, 1920, A. tenuicornis CAMERON, 1930, Trogophloeus assamensis CAMERON, 1930, T. fuscipalpis FAUVEL, 1904, T. pubicollis CAMERON, 1920 and T. singularis FAUVEL, 1907. Habitus of most species, including all the new ones are illustrated by colour photos; important features are also shown on SEM images; male and female genitalia plus terminalia are depicted by line drawings.

Anotylus erythrinus nom.n. (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Oxytelinae) is proposed as a replacement name for Oxytelus rufotestaceus CAMERON, 1929: 444, a junior secondary homonym of Oxytelopsis rufotestacea CAMERON, 1925: 176. Oxytelus rufotestaceus is redescribed and a lectotype is designated for it. A very similar species, Anotylus liliputanus (BERNHAUER, 1936) previously known only from its female holotype is redescribed based on a male specimen. For both redescriptions photographs of the habitus, as well as sculpture and other details are provided; terminalia and male genitalia are depicted by line drawings.

Three new species of the genus Olophrum ERICHSON, 1839 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Omaliinae) from China are described and illustrated: O. hromadkai (Yunnan), O. laxum (Sichuan, Shaanxi) and O. pacei (Sichuan). They represent a new species group: Olophrum laxum group. A key and distri- bution map for all species are provided.

Helophorus sinoglacialis sp.n. (Coleoptera: Helophoridae) is described from a single female taken among gravel at the edge of the Kran river in the Chinese Altai (Xinjiang Province) and postglacial fossils representing about seven specimens. The possible habitats are discussed and illustrated and the fossil site, the Halashazi Wetland, is described. The status of the former subgenus Atractohelophorus KUWERT, 1886 is discussed, and an illustrated account is given of species of the Helophorus glacialis and H. guttulus groups, as set out by ANGUS (1985), as well as of other relevant species.

The Japanese species of the Stenelmis hisamatsui species group (Coleoptera: Elmidae) are reviewed. A new species of this group is described from Kume-jima, Ryukyu Islands, Japan. A key to the Japanese species of the Stenelmis hisamatsui species group is provided.

A new species of Cerambycidae (Coleoptera), Lasiolepturges similis from Ecuador, is described.

Eleven new species of Hylobiini (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Molytinae), Arniticus circularis sp.n., A. obscurus sp.n., Heilipodus bifenestratus sp.n., H. oculatus sp.n., H. rubrobrunneus sp.n., Heilipus sparsus sp.n., Hilipinus multipunctatus sp.n., H. oculatoguttatus sp.n., H. foveatifrons sp.n., H. giuglarisi sp.n., Marshallius bifasciatus sp.n., and three new species of Cryptorhynchini (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Cryptorhynchinae), Hemiliopsis irregularis sp.n., Staseas projectostriatus sp.n., and S. multicarinatus sp.n. are described from French Guiana. All species are illustrated. Keys for the iden- tification of the species of Arniticus PASCOE, 1881, Hemiliopsis CHAMPION, 1905, and Staseas CHAMPION, 1905 are provided.

Two new species of Cnemonyx EICHHOFF, 1868 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae: Scolytini) are described from Peru: C. cupreus and C. incanus. One new combination is proposed: Loganius acu- minatus (SCHEDL, 1976) (= Cnemonyx acuminatus SCHEDL, 1976). The males of Camptocerus major (EGGERS, 1929) and Loganius acuminatus SCHEDL, 1976 are described. The sexual dimorphism of the species of the genus Scolytopsis BLANDFORD, 1896 is clarified.

Augyles gigas sp.n. (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) from Vietnam is described and illustrated. A checklist of the species of Heteroceridae recorded from Vietnam is provided.

A field trip to the Greek islands Ikaría and Samos conducted in spring 2017 yielded a total of 1266 adult specimens belonging to 106 species of Staphylinidae. Nine species, eight of them island endemics, are described and illustrated: Geostiba (Tropogastrosipalia) perdita ASSING sp.n. (Ikaría) of the Aleocharinae, Amauronyx assingi BRACHAT sp.n. (Ikaría), Euplectus meybohmi BRACHAT sp.n. (Samos), Faronus icariensis BRACHAT sp.n. (Ikaría), Paratychus kerkisicus BRACHAT sp.n. (Samos: Oros Kerkis), and Tychus icariensis BRACHAT sp.n. (Ikaría) of the Pselaphinae, and Euconnus (Tetramelus) ambelosicus MEYBOHM sp.n. (Samos: Oros Ambelos), E. (T.) samius MEYBOHM sp.n. (Samos; Turkey: Aydin: Dilek Dağ), and E. (T.) kerkisicus MEYBOHM sp.n. (Samos: Oros Kerkis) of the Scydmaeninae. One species, Thinobius micros FAUVEL, 1871, is reported from Greece for the first time. A comprehensive and updated list of the named and unnamed species currently known from Ikaría and Samos is provided. Numerous described species are reported from Ikaría for the first time and 19 species are newly recorded from Samos. The known staphylinid fauna of Samos currently includes 157 species, that of Ikaría 70 species. Endemic species account for 11 % of the total fauna in Samos (17 species; seven of Pselaphinae, two of Aleocharinae, five of Scydmaeninae, and three of Paederinae) and 10 % in Ikaría (seven species; four of Pselaphinae, one of Aleocharinae, and two of Scydmaeninae). Six of the endemic species from Samos (three of Pselaphinae and three of Scydmaeninae) and two endemic species from Ikaría (Scydmaeninae) are unnamed. Approximately half of the species recorded from Ikaría are not known from Samos. The diversity of the Ikarian fauna is greatest in the central (oldest) part of the island.
