Orthogonius nongfaensis sp.n. and O. deuvei sp.n. (Coleoptera: Carabidae) are described from Laos and Vietnam. Orthogonius nongfaensis is allied to O. crassicrus CHAUDOIR, 1871, but easily reco- gnized by its emarginate labrum, bordered prosternal process and carinate elytral interval 7. Orthogonius deuvei is similar to O. angkor TIAN & DEUVE, 2006 from Cambodia, but its aedeagus with the apical lamella is narrower and much longer.

The three larval instars of Thermonectus alfredi GRIFFINI, 1898 (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) are described and illustrated for the first time, emphasizing the morphometry and chaetotaxy. In this species, the median process of the prementum is slightly bifid apically, bearing two spine-like setae (LA8), which are diagnostic features of the genus Thermonectus DEJEAN, 1833. The first instar of T. alfredi differs from that of T. succinctus (AUBÉ, 1838) in the number of additional spine-like setae on the dorsal surface of the stipes and on the anterodorsal surface of the prementum, and in the presence of additional anterodistal setae on the metafemur. On the other hand, the third instar of T. alfredi differs from those of T. basillaris (HARRIS, 1829) and T. succinctus in the number of secondary setae on the femur and the metatibia, and from that of T. nigrofasciatus ornaticollis (AUBÉ, 1838) in the length of seta LA8, which is shorter than the median process of the prementum.

Twenty-one species of Dytiscidae are reported from the city of Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province, Iran. Cybister lateralimarginalis ponticus SHARP, 1882, Hydroporus inscitus SHARP, 1882, and Lacco- philus sordidus SHARP, 1882 are recorded for the first time from Iran.

A second series of corrections and additions to the World Catalogue of Haliplidae (Coleoptera) published as part of Volume 7 of the World Catalogue of insect series (VONDEL 2005) are presented. All new taxa, new synonymies and new data on distribution are summarized. The number of species of the family Haliplidae is now 240, distributed in five genera.

Records of 102 species and one subspecies of water beetles of six families: Noteridae (2 spp.), Dytiscidae (62 spp., 1 ssp.), Haliplidae (4 spp.), Gyrinidae (6 spp.), Hydrophilidae (27 spp.), and Spercheidae (1 sp.) from Dagestan (Russia) are listed, based on collected material and information from the literature. The family Spercheidae (incl. one species) and 43 species and one subspecies of the other five families are recorded for the first time from Dagestan. Two species and one subspecies of Dytiscidae are reported for the first time from the southern territory of Russia.

Three new species of Limnebius LEACH (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) are described: L. apolloniae (Réunion), L. oweni (Mauritius), L. pollex (Mauritius). Limnebius curidius ORCHYMONT, 1941 and L. vinsoni ORCHYMONT, 1941 are redescribed. Specimens recorded from Réunion under the name L. curidius by BAMEUL (1986) were found to represent a new species (L. apolloniae). Limnebius curidius is regarded as extinct.

Othius vetitus sp.n. (China: southern Gansu) and O. rufocaudatus sp.n. (China: Zhejiang, Shaanxi) are described and illustrated. Based on morphological, zoogeographic, and ecological evidence, O. stenocephalus EPPELSHEIM, 1881, previously a subspecies of O. angustus STEPHENS, 1833, is regarded as a distinct species. Additional records of 26 described species and subspecies of Othius STEPHENS, 1829 are reported, among them the first record of O. subuliformis STEPHENS, 1833 from Madeira. One female of a probably undescribed species is reported from Taiwan. The distributions of six species are mapped. An updated checklist of the Othius species of China and Taiwan is provided. The Palaearctic genus now comprises a total of 126 species and subspecies; it is represented in mainland China by 38 and in Taiwan by 14 species and subspecies, with one species distributed in both regions.

Two new species of the subtribe Philonthina (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae) are described: Gabrius settei (Verona Province) and Bisnius kappi (Sicily).

The Asian species of the genus Taxiplagus BERNHAUER, 1915 and Pseudomoeocerus CAMERON, 1950 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) are revised. Nine species are new to science: T. ater (E-Malaysia), T. borneensis (E-Malaysia), T. fasciatus (E-Malaysia), T. klapperichi (China, Laos), T. laosensis (Laos), T. minahasa (Indonesia: Sulawesi), T. pecki (N-Vietnam, China: Hongkong), T. siamensis (Thailand), T. tarasovi (Laos, N-Vietnam). Taxiplagus termitophagus (CAMERON, 1926) is removed from synonymy with T. sericoilius (CAMERON, 1920). A lectotype is designated for Quediosoma termito- phaga CAMERON, 1926. Keys are provided for the Old World genera of the Taxiplagus lineage and for the Asian species of Taxiplagus. The Afrotropical genera are shortly discussed and diagnosed. The taxa Pseudophilonthus BERNHAUER, 1915 and Nephronthus BERNHAUER, 1932 are removed from synonymy with Philonthus STEPHENS and given generic status. The aedeagi of all Asian species of Taxiplagus are illustrated. Color images for selected Taxiplagus species and representatives of all genera treated, as well as some morphological details, are provided.

A new species of Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae), Anacaena sipekorum, is described from Meghalaya (north-eastern India). Habitus, aedeagus and other morphological details are illustrated.

The genus Optioservus SANDERSON, 1954 (Coleoptera: Elmidae) is redescribed. All Nearctic species are redescribed and two species groups (O. fastiditus group and O. quadrimaculatus group) are newly proposed for them. The larvae of five species, O. canus CHANDLER, O. castanipennis (FALL), O. fastiditus (LECONTE), O. phaeus WHITE and O. sandersoni COLLIER, are newly described.

Three species of Scirtidae (Coleoptera) are recorded from Armenia for the first time raising the number of species known from this country to seven. The previously unknown female of Elodes pseudoscutellaris KLAUSNITZER, 1973 is described.

Tropicus mipkae sp.n. (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) is described from Ecuador. It can be separated from all other species of the genus Tropicus PACHECO, 1964 by the morphology of the aedeagus. A key for the identification of all species known from Ecuador is presented.

Three new species of Sampsonius EGGERS, 1935 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) are described from Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru: S. lepusculus, S. lapidosus and S. militaris. Sampsonius ensifer WOOD, 2007 is synonymized with S. giganteus SCHÖNHERR, 1994. The male of S. dampfi SCHEDL, 1940 is described for the first time. New records and a key to the world species of Sampsonius is given.

Twenty-three new species of Trigonopterus FAUVEL (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Cryptorhynchinae) are described from New Caledonia: T. albopunctatus sp.n., T. biguttatoides sp.n., T. biguttatus sp.n., T. carinatus sp.n., T. conicus sp.n., T. difformis sp.n., T. femoridens sp.n., T. hassleri sp.n., T. in- signoides sp.n., T. kuscheli sp.n., T. lescheni sp.n., T. parvus sp.n., T. pilosipes sp.n., T. pseudinsignis sp.n., T. quadrimaculatus sp.n., T. rufipterus sp.n., T. rufithorax sp.n., T. sculpturatus sp.n., T. seti- poides sp.n., T. setipus sp.n., T. sexmaculatus sp.n., T. suturaelevata sp.n., T. unicolor sp.n. A key for the identification of the species of Trigonopterus is provided. A new genus and two new species of Cryptorhynchinae, Nototrigonopterus gen.n. nigrosquamulatus sp.n. and N. basiasperatus sp.n. are described from New Caledonia. All new species are illustrated.

Results of a Coleoptera collection from the Tristan da Cunha Islands (Tristan and Nightingale) made in 2005 are presented, revealing 16 new records: Eleven species from eight families are new records for Tristan Island, and five species from four families are new records for Nightingale Island. Two families (Anthribidae, Corylophidae), five genera (Bisnius STEPHENS, Bledius LEACH, Homoe- odera WOLLASTON, Micrambe THOMSON, Sericoderus STEPHENS) and seven species Homoeodera pumilio WOLLASTON, 1877 (Anthribidae), Sericoderus sp. (Corylophidae), Micrambe gracilipes WOLLASTON, 1871 (Cryptophagidae), Cryptolestes ferrugineus (STEPHENS, 1831) (Laemophloeidae), Cartodere ? constricta (GYLLENHAL, 1827) (Latridiidae), Bisnius sordidus (GRAVENHORST, 1802) (Staphylinidae) and Bledius sp. (Staphylinidae), have not previously been recorded from the Tristan da Cunha Archipelago. Amongst the new findings from Tristan da Cunha Island is the flightless Liodessus involucer (BRINCK, 1948) (Dytiscidae), known as endemic to the other three main islands in the Tristan group. We discuss this intriguing new record and present an observed scenario involving the possible role of Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross (Thalassarche chlororhynchos GMELIN, 1789) in transferring the species from Nightingale. A summary of all the coleopteran species known from the Tristan da Cunha Islands to date is provided with comparisons to those known previously, revealing an increase at Tristan Island of 133 % in 67 years being principally alien species, and for the still incompletely surveyed archipelago as a whole, an increase over 40 years of 42 %, being all alien species.
