Six new species and one new subspecies of Lesticus DEJEAN, 1828and Trigonotoma DEJEAN, 1828 (Coleoptera: Carabidae) from the Oriental Region are described: Lesticus (Triplogenius) baehri sp.n. (Thailand), L. (Triplogenius) lombokensis sp.n. (Indonesia: Lombok), L. (Triplogenius) torajaensis sp.n. (Indonesia: Sulawesi), Trigonotoma laosensis sp.n. (Laos), T. loeffleri sp.n. (Thailand), T. nepalensishanumantei ssp.n. (Nepal), T. shillongensis sp.n. (India). Trigonotoma indica nepalensis MORVAN, 1994 is raised to species level. Trigonotoma glastenvalum MORVAN, 1992 is synonymized with T. aethiops TSCHITSCHÉRINE, 1895. Ten species of the genus Trigonotoma are arranged in a species group (T. chalceola group). A key to species of the T. chalceola group and a key to species of Lesticus from Sulawesi are provided.

A first attempt is made to summarize the knowledge of the Chinese species of Amerizus CHAUDOIR, 1868 (Coleoptera: Carabidae) in order to elucidate the infrasubgeneric systematics of the subgenus Tiruka ANDREWES, 1935. An updated checklist of the Palaearctic species of the subgenus is also provided. The males of A. mourzinei DEUVE, 1998 and A. hubeiensis DEUVE, 2002 are described for the first time. The extreme polymorphism of some species of Tiruka suggests that systematic studies should be done using mainly male characters. The known Chinese species of the subgenus Tiruka are here divided in five species groups, mainly based on differences in the male genitalia. New species: Anerizus (Tiruka) davidales sp.n.; A. (T.) farkaci sp.n.; A. (T.) lama sp.n.; A. (T.) panda sp.n.; A. (T.) puetzi sp.n.; A. (T.) schmidti sp.n. 6

A new species of Cicindelidae, Cicindela (Austrocicindela) fontanea sp.n., is described from Namibia. Photographs of habitat and specimens, and line drawings of the new species are presented.

A lectotype is designated for Cybister chinensis MOTSCHULSKY, 1854, thereby confirming its synonymy with C. japonicus SHARP, 1882, first published by ZAITZEV (1915).

Three new species of the genus Sternopriscus SHARP, 1882 (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) are described: S. emmae(intermittent streams in northern and north-western Australia), S. eikei (acid coastal peat land pools of south-western Australianear Northcliffe), and S. williamsi (open alpine sedge/heath land pools of the Central Plateau Conservation Area of Tasmania). Sternopriscus emmae belongs to the S. hansardii group, S. williamsi to the S. tarsalis group, and S. eikei is similar to S. marginatus WATTS, 1978 (species group unknown). The median lobes, male antennae and color patterns are illustrated. The known distribution and ecology of each species is briefly outlined. The total number of described species in the genus Sternopriscus is now 29.

Microdytestrontelji (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae, Hyphydrini) is described from a cave in Hainan, China. A molecular phylogenetic analysis groups this morphologically very aberrant species unambiguously with Microdytes, and it is therefore suggested that it represents a highly modified member of this genus, adapted to life in underground waters.

The species of Dytiscidae collected by M.A. Jäch in Bhutan in November 2005 are listed. Eleven species were found in Bhutan for the first time: Allopachria sp., Hydaticus incertus RÉGIMBART, Hydrovatus confertus SHARP, H. seminarius MOTSCHULSKY, Hyphydrus birmanicus RÉGIMBART, Lacconectus nicolasi BRANCUCCI, Laccophilus parvulus AUBÉ, Nebrioporus melanogrammus RÉGIMBART, Platambus kempi (VAZIRANI), P. satoi BRANCUCCI, and Rhantus sikkimensis RÉGIMBART. An updated checklist of the species of Dytiscidae from Bhutan is provided.

Ochthebius judemaesi sp.n. (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae), a member of the Ochthebius metallescens group, is described from southeastern Spain.

The Ochthebius (Asiobates) maculatus REICHE, 1872 species complex (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) is revised taxonomically. This species complex is characterized mainly by the bilaminate ventro-lateral margin of the aedeagal distal lobe. Two new species are described: O. avdati [Israel, Jordan] and O. jaimei [Spain]. Two species, O. abeillei GUILLEBEAU, 1896 and O. immaculatus BREIT, 1908, are resurrected from synonymy. Ochthebius infuscatus SAHLBERG, 1913 is synonymized with O. abeillei GUILLEBEAU, 1896.

The West Palearctic species of Hesperus FAUVEL, 1874 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) are treated. Three species, all discovered in southern Turkey, are described as new: Hesperus auricomus, H. gozukarai, H. turcicus. The habitat requirements of the new taxa are described and a key to the West Palearctic species of Hesperus is provided. The male copulatory organs of all species studied herein are illustrated. Hesperus rufipennis (GRAVENHORST, 1802) is recorded from Bulgaria for the first time.

Three new species of the genus Holotrochus ERICHSON, 1839 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Osoriinae) are described from Central and South America: H. diversipennis, H. longicornis, and H. guyanus. They all belong to the Holotrochus syntheticus group. Due to the sexual dimorphism in the elytral structure of H. diversipennis, the Holotrochus syntheticus group has to be redefined and combined with the H. brasiliensis group. Holotrochus breviatus nom.n. is proposed to replace the preoccupied H. curtipennis IRMLER, 2005 (nec COIFFAIT, 1979). A revised key to species of the H. syntheticus group is provided and the geographical distribution and potential phylogenetic relations are considered.

The species of Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) from Australia are revised taxonomically. All species hither to assigned to Paranacaena BLACKBURN, 1889 are transferred to Anacaena. One new species, Anacaena eremitoides sp.n., is described. Two new synonymies are established: Paranacaena tasmaniana GENTILI, 2002 = Anacaena sublineata (BLACKBURN, 1889), and Paranacaena hibrida GENTILI, 2002 = Anacaena littoralis d’ORCHYMONT, 1942.

A new subspecies of Malthodes atratus BAUDI, 1859 (Coleoptera: Cantharidae) is described from the Eastern Alps: M. a. styriacus ssp.n. The characters of the aedeagus are described and figured. The variability of all subspecies is stressed. A map of the distribution is given.

Graecoeme eggeri ADLBAUER, 2006 is recognized as a subjective junior synonym of Penichroa fasciata (STEPHENS, 1831).

Three new species of Shigizo MORIMOTO (Coleoptera: Curuclionidae: Curculioninae) are described: S. brancuccii sp.n. [Vietnam, India], S. punctatus sp.n. [India], and S. sleeperi sp.n. [India]. Shigizo variesculptus (HELLER) comb.n. [Philippines] is transferred from Curculio L. and redescribed.

The Palaearctic genus Miarus SCHÖNHERR, 1826 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Curculioninae) is revised. Nineteen species are recognized as valid. Miarusursinus ABEILLE ssp. maroccanus SOLARI, 1947 is considered as distinct species. The following new synonymies are proposed: M. abnormis SOLARI, 1947 (= M. zoufali SOLARI, 1947 syn.n.), M. ajugae (HERBST, 1795) (= M. portae SOLARI ssp. confusus ROUDIER, 1966 syn.n., = M. thuleus KANGAS, 1980 syn.n.), M. campanulae (LINNAEUS, 1767) (= M. moroi SOLARI, 1947 syn.n.), M. dentiventris REITTER, 1907 (= M. armenus IABLOKOFF-KHNZORIAN, 1967 syn.n.), M. maroccanus SOLARI, 1947 (= M. italicus FRANZ ssp. maroccanus FRANZ, 1947 syn.n.), M. monticola PETRI, 1912 (= M. fennicus KANGAS, 1978 syn.n.), M. simplex SOLARI, 1947 (= M. alzonae SOLARI, 1947 syn.n., = M. portae SOLARI, 1947 syn.n.). The lectotypes of the following taxa are designated: Curculioajugae HERBST, 1795, Miarusabeillei DESBROCHERS DESLOGES, 1893, M. abnormis SOLARI, 1947, M.alzonae SOLARI, 1947, M. araxis REITTER, 1907, M. binaghii SOLARI, 1947, M. brevirostris SOLARI, 1947, M. dentiventris REITTER, 1907, M. frigidus FRANZ, 1947, M. horni FRANZ, 1947, M. italicus FRANZ, 1947, M. longicollis SOLARI, 1947, M. moroi SOLARI, 1947, M. muelleri SOLARI, 1947, M. phyteumatis FRANZ, 1947, M. phyteumatis imitator FRANZ, 1947, M. portae SOLARI, 1947, M. rotundicollis DESBROCHERS DES LOGES, 1893, M. simplex SOLARI, 1947, M. stoeckleini FRANZ, 1947, M. subseriatus SOLARI, 1947, M. ursinus maroccanus SOLARI, 1947, M. zoufali SOLARI, 1947. A key to the species and descriptions of diagnostic characters, biological and distributional notes, as well as illustrations of male genitalia of all species are provided. Moreover a cladistic analysis was performed to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships of the species of this genus. Evolutionary trends of some characters are discussed.

Urocorthylus, a new scolytine genus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), including a single new species, U. hirtellus, from northern Vietnam, is described and figured. The new species is considered to be a strongly deviating representative of the subtribe Corthylina LECONTE, 1876, previously thought to be nearly exclusively American.

Three new species and one new genus of weevils (Coleoptera: Apionidae, Curculionidae) are described from South America. Acalles cayennensis sp.n. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Cryptorhynchinae) is described as the first member of this widely distributed genus from French Guyana. Platyomus wellsi sp.n. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Otiorhynchinae) is the second species of this genus from Honduras. Guyanapion calomelas gen.n. sp.n. (Coleoptera: Apionidae) is the first species of Apionidae known from French Guyana and placed in the Piezotrachelini. This assignment is discussed with regard to related tribes.

Faunistic data of six rare or little known species of Coleoptera (Insecta) from Austria are provided. One species of Dytiscidae, Ilybius wasastjernae (SAHLBERG), one species of Staphylinidae, Bythinus acutangulus REITTER, and one species of Chrysomelidae, Lilioceris schneideri (WEISE)are recorded from Austria for the first time. New provincial records: Acrotrichis silvatica ROSSKOTHEN (Ptiliidae; Lower Austria), Psylliodes illyricus LEONARDI &GRUEV (Chrysomelidae; Burgenland) and Euophryum confine (BROUN)(Curculionidae; Burgenland).
