A new genus and species, Crassagena depressa gen.n., sp.n. (Coleoptera: Carabidae), is described from north-eastern Queensland (Australia). The species belongs to the lebiine subtribe Pericalina according to structure of the labium and of the stylomeres. Although habits and life history of the new species are unknown, the remarkably depressed body shape suggests a mode of life in crevices, most probably in or under bark.

Bembidion (Ocydromus) nemrutdagi sp.n. from the Nemrut Da (Turkey, Ad yaman Prov.) is described. Its nearest relative, B. cordicolle DUVAL, 1851, is transferred to the subgen. Ocydromus CLAIRVILLE, 1806 s.l. (sensu KRYZHANOVSKIJ et al. 1995). The systematic relationships of some species groups are discussed.

The Australian Hyphydrus (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) species, H. decemmaculatus WEHNCKE and H. effeminatus WATTS, are synonymised based on mtDNA sequence data and larval morphology despite the considerable differences in adult sexual dimorphism. Comments are made on the concept of a sexual arms race in this species and the three other Australian Hyphydrus species and it is concluded that this is not obviously the case in these species. A key is given to the adults of the four Australian species and one form. Colour illustrations of all species and forms are included.

Hydroporus incommodus sp.n. (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) is described from Slovakia. The new species belongs to the H. striola-group. It shows affinities to the eastern Mediterranean H. jonicus MILLER, 1862 and the western Mediterranean H. distinguendus DESBROCHERS DES LOGES, 1871. Hydroporus gridellii FOCARILE, 1960 is recognised as junior subjective synonym of H. distinguendus, and recorded under this name for the first time from Italy and Algeria. Lectotypes are designated for H. jonicus and H. distinguendus.

Oreodytes shorti sp.n. (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) is described from the central part of northern Mongolia. It is characterized by its relatively large elongate body, protruded and acute posterior angles of the pronotum, simple male protarsal claws, and strongly asymmetric median lobe. The new species is morphologically similar to the Palearctic O. dauricus (MOTSCHULSKY, 1860) and the Nearctic O. recticollis (FALL, 1926) thus placing it in the O. alaskanus-clade. Data on habitats of the new species are presented.

The third instar of the Antilles endemic species Pachydrus obniger (CHEVROLAT, 1863) (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) is described and illustrated. This species has turned out as very similar to P. globosus (AUBÉ, 1838) in terms of larval morphology and it is postulated that P. obniger might represent a junior synonym of P. globosus.

Rhantus englundi sp.n. (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) is described from Tubuai Island, in the Austral Islands (Southern French Polynesia). It is the fourth endemic species of Rhantus DEJEAN from French Polynesia. Rhantus englundi sp.n. belongs to the R. suturalis-group and can easily be distinguished from all other known species through a diagnostic combination of body size, coloration and shape of male genital.

A third set of corrections and additions is given to the World Catalogue of Dytiscidae (NILSSON 2001) including the first and second sets of corrections and additions (NILSSON 2003 & 2004). Megadytes lherminieri (GUÉRIN-MÉNEVILLE, 1829) has priority over M. giganteus (LAPORTE, 1835). The species name Dytiscus silphoides PONZA, 1805 is declared as a nomen oblitum, in order to ensure the continuous usage of its junior synonym Deronectes opatrinus (GERMAR, 1824) as a valid name (nomen protectum). The preoccupied name Hydroporus ruficeps AUBÉ, 1838 is replaced with Hydroporus pseudoniger nom.n. New taxa published before January 1, 2006 are added. The number of recent species of the family Dytiscidae is now 3959.

Limnebius hieronymi sp.n. (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) is described from Pescasseroli, Abruzzo, Italy. The species belongs to the L. nitidus (MARSHAM) species group.

The genus Algon SHARP, 1874 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) is revised. Currently, the genus comprises 58 Asian species and two doubtful African species. Thirty-nine new species are described: Algon atrocaeruleus (India), A. atronitidus (Vietnam), A. aureoviridis (India), A. biru (E-Malaysia), A. bramlettorum (Laos, Thailand, India), A. ceylonensis (Sri Lanka), A. chinensis (China), A. crockerensis (E-Malaysia), A. dentiger (Nepal), A. emeishanus (China), A. forceps (Nepal), A. fredricki (E-Malaysia), A. fukienensis (China), A. gemmatus (India, Nepal), A. himalayicus (Nepal), A. hollowayae (W-Malaysia), A. hubeiensis (China), A. impexus (E-Malaysia), A. jaechi (Indonesia), A. jizushanus (China), A. lanceolatus (E-Malaysia), A. macrops (Thailand), A. mulu (E-Malaysia), A. nadjae (Nepal), A. nomurai (Vietnam), A. pseudoculatus (Thailand), A. pseudonepalicus (Nepal), A. robillardae (Taiwan), A. rugulipennis (China), A. semiviolaceus (Indonesia), A. similis (Nepal), A. sinoculatus (China), A. smetanai (E-Malaysia), A. sphaericollis (Russia, Korea, China), A. theresae (Thailand), A. tibetanus (China), A. tigrimontis (India), A. tristis (China), A. tronqueti (China). Lectotypes are designated for A. psittacus FAUVEL, 1895 and A. semiaureus FAUVEL, 1895. One new synonymy is proposed: A. oculatus CAMERON, 1932 (= A. deuvi (COIFFAIT, 1984) syn.n.). The habitus of most species and the aedeagi of all species where males are known, as well as body details of selected species are illustrated. A key to species groups and to species is provided.

Based on an examination of recently collected material from Turkey, 15 species of Staphylinidae (Coleoptera) are described and illustrated: Phloeocharis parvispinosa sp.n. (Mersin), Lobrathium wunderlei sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), Xantholinus (Milichilinus) meybohmi sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), X. (Typhlolinus) grandespinosus sp.n. (Amasya), Trichophya turcica sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), Oligota brachati sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), O. marasica sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), Leptusa marasica sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), Cordalia fortepunctata sp.n. (Malatya, Kayseri, Ad yaman, Kahramanmara ), C. rosei sp.n. (Antalya), Platyola caeca sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), Atheta (Parameotica) akiensis sp.n. (Mu la), Meotica subnigra sp.n. (Kahramanmara ), Oxypoda (Deropoda?) nemrutica sp.n. (Ad yaman), and O. (Bessopora) biformis sp.n. (Kahramanmara ). The habitus and sexual characters of Aloconota mediterranea (BENICK), Atheta (Dimetrota) fuscicolor BENICK, Anomognathus tricuspis (EPPELSHEIM), and the spermatheca of Oxypoda hatayana ASSING are illustrated. Six synonymies are established: Luzea nigritula (ERICHSON, 1840) = L. graeca (KRAATZ, 1857), syn.n.; Xantholinus graecus KRAATZ, 1858 = X. varnensis COIFFAIT, 1972, syn.n., = X. pamphylicus COIFFAIT, 1972, syn.n., = Xantholinus gridellii carius COIFFAIT, 1972, syn.n.; Xantholinus laevigatus JACOBSON, 1849 = X. bythinicus COIFFAIT, 1972, syn.n.; Oxypoda vicina KRAATZ, 1858 = O. nivalis FAGEL, 1965, syn.n. A lectotype is designated for Thectura tricuspis EPPELSHEIM. Various new records of zoogeographic interest are reported; 34 species are recorded from Turkey for the first time. The geographical distributions of 19 species are mapped.

The species of the genus Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) from the Indian Subcontinent are revised. Four new species are described: A. boukali, A. jaegeri, A. laevoides, and A. setifera. Five species are redescribed. Figures of diagnostic morphological features and a key to all nine species are provided.

Additions and corrections to the World Catalogue of Hydrophiloidea (HANSEN 1999) are presented. All new taxa and synonymies as well as all new combinations and taxa with new status are summarized. New distributional data for previously described species are not covered. Aschius MAKHAN, 2004, Rishihydroius MAKHAN, 2001, Satishius MAKHAN, 2004 and Soesilius MAKHAN, 2001 are synonymized with Hydrochus LEACH. There are now 3151 valid species of Hydrophiloidea distributed in 181 genera.

Sphaenognathus (Chiasognathinus) xerophilus sp.n. (Coleoptera: Lucanidae) from Peru is described and illustrated. The new species is compared to the closely allied S. (C.) gaujoni (OBERTHÜR) and S. (C.) peruvianus (WATERHOUSE).

Resachus schuhi sp.n. (Coleoptera: Limnichidae) is described from Madagascar. New faunistic records are provided for Resachus lineatifrons DELÈVE (Zambia), and Resachus striatellus DELÈVE (Nigeria). A key to the species of Resachus DELÈVE is presented.

Corticaria rueckeri sp.n. (Coleoptera: Latridiidae) is described from the Iberian Peninsula.

Graecoeme eggeri gen.n., sp.n. (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is described from the Peloponnes, Greece. It is the first representative of the tribe Oemini in Europe.

Oreina (Protorina) retenta (WEISE) (Coleopterea: Chrysomelidae) is found again after more than 100 years and confirmed as a valid species endemic to the Styrian Alps (Austria). History and habitat of this probably highly endangered beetle are described.

A comprehensive biodiversity study of the Scolytidae (Coleoptera) of Puerto Rico, USA has been underway for several years. Seventy-one species are now recorded from the island. One new genus, Allothenemus, is described with Allothenemus minutus new species, as the type species. An additional 13 new species are described: Chramesus atlanticus, Scolytodes puertoricensis, S. atlanticus, Pseudothysanoes magnispinatus, Hypothenemus amplissimus, H. concavifrons, Trischidias puertoricensis, Xyleborus atlanticus, Theoborus puertoricensis, Coptoborus bellus, Xyleborinus insulosus, Pityophthorus convexicollis, and Corthylus insularis. Twenty-one species are recorded from Puerto Rico for the first time. Four new cases of synonymy are reported: Dryocoetoides cristatus (FABRICIUS) (= Dryocoetoides caracicolai HOPKINS, syn.n.), Hypothenemus crudiae (PANZER) (=Stephanoderes trinitatis HOPKINS, syn.n.) and Monarthrum mali (FITCH) (= Pterocyclon praeustum EGGERS, syn.n., and Pterocyclon omissum SCHEDL, syn.n.). Two species, H ypothenemus hampei WESTWOOD and Xyleborus xylographus (SAY), are deleted from the Puerto Rican list. New host records for several species are reported.

Curculio guyanensis sp.n. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is described as the first member of this widely distributed genus from South America. The genus Ithaura is recorded from French Guyana for the first time with three species. I. guyanensis sp.n. and quadraticollis sp.n. are described and a key to the species of French Guyana is presented.

Thirteen little known or rarely collected species of Coleoptera are recorded from Vorarlberg. Margarinotus ventralis (MARSEUL, 1854) Myllaena gracilis MATTHEWS, 1838

Faunistic data of nine rare or little known species from Austria are provided. One species of Hydrophilidae, Dactylosternum abdominale (FABRICIUS), one species of Dermestidae, Anthrenocerus australis (HOPE), one species of Nitidulidae, Stelidota geminata (SAY), and one species of Tenebrionidae, Mycetochara quadrimaculata (LATREILLE), are recorded from Austria for the first time. New provincial records: Hydraenidae: Hydraena alpicola PRETNER (Vienna), Nitidulidae: Epuraea ocularis FAIRMAIRE (Carinthia) and Anobiidae: Dorcatoma minor ZAHRADNIK (Lower Austria).
